We will miss him very much.
This appeared in the local paper:
"Brent Barnett, 56, of Prosser, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at his home, following a yearlong battle with cancer.
He was born Douglas Brent Barnett on December 1, 1952, in Scottsburg, Indiana, to James and Roberda (Collings) Barnett. Brent's mother passed away in 1957, and his father was later remarried to Billie D. Stanley. Brent was raised and educated in Scottsburg, Jeffersonville, and Sellersburg, Indiana, and Berea, Ohio, and graduated from Berea High School in 1971. Brent received a Bachelor of Science Degree in geology from The Ohio State University in 1980 and a Master's Degree in geology from Eastern Washington University in 1985.
Brent was a licensed professional geologist in Washington, Idaho and Oregon. Before working at Hanford, he worked for George Maddox & Associates and BHP Utah International, and the Washington State Dept. of Natural Resources and the Washington State Dept. of Ecology in Olympia. In 1992 Brent began working for Westinghouse Hanford Co. in Richland, WA. In 1996 he transferred to Battelle PNNL where he remained for 11 years. In April 2007 he transferred to Fluor Hanford Co. where he worked until April 2008, when he became too ill to continue.
Brent married Mary J. Amos in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on May 26, 1990. They lived in Olympia for two years and then moved to Kennewick when Brent began working for Westinghouse. His beloved dad, James F. Barnett, passed away in 1992. Brent and Mary moved to Prosser in 1993, two months before the birth of their first child, Daniel. Their daughter Christina was born in 1997. Brent enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, loved playing with his children, and always had the video camera rolling. He enjoyed target shooting, weather watching, primitive camping, photography, watching Ohio State football, listening to conservative talk radio, and barbecuing on the patio for our annual "Bruce Fest." He was an avid reader in the areas of science, politics, World War II history, and The Holy Bible. Brent was a loving and generous husband, father and friend with a wonderful dry sense of humor. His love for his savior Jesus Christ shone through in everything he did.
Brent was a member of the Grandview Church of the Nazarene. One of his great joys was teaching the 3-year-old Sunday school class for five years. He was also a member of the Horse Heaven Sportsman Society and the American Meteorological Society.
Brent is survived by his wife of 18 years, Mary, and his children, Daniel and Christina, all of Prosser; his mother, Billie Barnett Wolfert and her husband, Karl, and his sister, Jamie Boothe and her husband, Dave, all of Waterville, Ohio; his brother, Chris Barnett and his wife, June, of Cincinnati, OH; nieces and nephews, Aaron, Emily and Ben Barnett and Nathaniel and Sam Lyell; and cousin, Bill Calloway, of Scottsburg, IN. He is also survived by many special aunts, uncles and cousins, and his lifelong friends, Randy and Cheryl Hallum and Bruce Merwin. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, including his maternal grandmother, Pearl "Ma" Collings.
Brent's life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 12:00 noon at the Grandview Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23rd at Prosser Funeral Home from 2:00-7:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Grandview Church of the Nazarene, P.O. Box 370, 500 North Elm Street, Grandview, WA 98930. Prosser Funeral Home is handling the arrangements."
